Learning As I Grow! – Last episode I said I would tell you about a new product purchased to assist in The Greenhouse/Grow Room.  I don’t know why it took so long for me to decided to get a timer for the lights, But I was excited when the first purchase was placed on Amazon.  The BN LINK 7-day digital dual outlet outdoor timer was a piece of junk.  We ordered two.  One didn’t work at all when programmed.  The other one turned on, but never off.  After a few days struggling with those I decided to shop at The Home Depot.  I settled with the Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug.  Double Outlets, weather resistant, control from anywhere with the kasa app on my phone.  Able to set multiple schedules for each outlet.  Ability to connect to other Kasa Smart devices like cameras and lights.  This Timmer gives me flexibility and ensures the plants get the proper amount of light each day depending on what cycle they are in.  Less than 25$.  Quick easy set-up.  Can’t believe I waited so long to get this much needed piece of equipment.  I couldn't believe how easy it was to set up and use.
In a recently published video "The Germinator" I demonstrate how to get your seeds to germinate using the paper towel method in the heated dome of The Germinator.  Although I had 100% success rate germinating the seeds.  I was not so lucky with the transplanting.  I believe that I gave them too much water too soon.  A key piece of advice I was given some time back was "Avoid - Too Much, Too Soon".  Not all perished, but a few didn't ever do much after they germinated.  Others did great and are thriving in the early stages of growth.
Seedlings in a seedling mixture with lots of perlite (white rocks) to allow the roots to breathe and grow.  After being placed in the mix, the seedlings that got water from the spray bottle did better than the ones with the dropper of water.  Always avoid too much nutrient at this stage.  While it can be a boost to the seedling, more times than not, I have killed it by giving too much nutrient.  Stay away from feeding until you have the second set of leaves fully formed (my best advice from my lesson learned).

PFC Song – “Catfish" - John Lee Hooker from the album More Real Folk Blues

Who's Got Questions??
Recently a friend asked "Do you use a grinder and what do you recommend"?  I gave him the website www.shopslx.com to look at the SLX line of grinders.  I was always a big fan of Diamond Grind, still like that product, but the SLX was easier to use and didn't over grind my flower.  I was impressed by the grinder from the first time I used it.  It doesn't require as much cleaning as my previous grinders.  It has been easy on my arthritis.
Another question I received was about One Hitters.  I have several in my collection.  I have used One Hitters all the way back to the beginning of my experience with this flower.  They are discreet and convenient, but they do require a lot of cleaning.  If you are going to burn a lot of flower at one time, you would be better off with a small pipe.  Two things come to mind when I think about the drawbacks of a one hitter.  If you don't pack it correctly of don't stop putting the fire to it, you will suck the cherry through that tube and it will hit you in the back of your throat!   Second thing is the resin on the tung or lips - yuck, yuck, yuck!  I got pulled over one time by a Texas Highway Patrol because I was speeding 10 miles over the speed limit on an interstate.  I was on cruise control and trying to use a paper clip and paper towel to clean my one hitter.  It had gotten clogged up and I was not paying attention to the road, the speed or the cop sitting at a roadside rest stop.  Luckly he didn't smell or see anything and gave me a warning for speeding!
A Master Grower that I know sent me a picture recently of his plants that had to be taken out because of Powdery Mildew or PM.  Although this is treatable, his concern was that it would continue to spread to more plants, and he would loose the entire grow.
It brought to mind the question - How do you treat Powdery Mildew?
In addition to Neem Oil, another product that is useful to control PM is Lost Coast Plant Therapy.  This concentrated formula only takes a few drops per a gallon of water and it treats a wide variety - Powdery Mildew, Fungus Gnats, Whiteflies, All Mites, Botrytis, Aphids and Thrips.    Active Ingredients: Soybean Oil, Peppermint Oil, Citric Acid, water, soap, isopropyl Alcohol, sodium citrate.
What is coming up, what have you been working on??
I have been spending some time working on my set list's for my upcoming trip this summer.  Someone had asked if I would be back in Texas anytime soon ?? - I don't have a trip planned yet, but when I do I will be sure to let everyone know.  This summer I am headed to Spokane to see my Grandson's and spend time with my children.  I also have a scheduled gig at the Survival Family get together in Northern Idaho at Priest Lake on the last weekend of July.  No idea what time I will be playing, but I will give an hour of my best songs and stories!  Looking forward to seeing some folks I haven't seen in a very long time.
Some computer issues have been slowing me down, but it's coming along.
