Toke time – Let’s fire it up!  You got yurin and I gotts minz so let’s get lifted…let’s get “tuneted”…let’s get hi !!!

Some projects that I have been working on – Making dabs with the Mega Jackpot strain and using the screens to infuse some wine.  I will let you know how that turns out.

Also, used my sugar leaf and other trimmings to make an infused Tequila.  The Idea or the plan is to make Margaritas with the Tequila and call them MarjiRitas.  Hoping that the taste of the drink mix will help with some of the “grass” taste you get from trim and sugar leaf.

Plus, I have a show coming up this Saturday night in the main house – I will be doing a 15-20 song set for about a dozen friends and neighbors.  I have been working and practicing, trying to get ready for the Texas Deer Camp Tour.  I am very nervous…

I wish I was Ready – This Lady is – She’s been all over the world preforming for Kings and Queens.  Singer, Songwriter, and Actor are just a few of her talents.  The Party Princess – Michelle Priest

Crab Soccer

When I was a kid, we had lots of different games we would play.  Of course, there was Football, Baseball, Basketball and Soccer.  There was the little league teams and the YMCA stuff.  But at school when we were still young enough to play Co-Ed (Girls and Boys together), well we had different games.  I remember playing Kickball – which is just baseball only you kick the ball instead of hitting it with a bat, and it’s one of those red bounce ball’s with lots of air in it so it’s easy to kick.  This would make it somewhat of a level playing field for the kids that didn’t play baseball.  Everyone can kick the ball and almost everyone can catch the ball and through the ball.  We also had a game known as dodgeball, but usually that would end up with someone getting hit in the head and maybe crying involved, let’s face it at some point the boys just got more aggressive than most of the girls.  If I remember correctly, it became optional if you wanted to play or not, but eventually they probably stopped that all together, or now maybe you have to use a nerf ball and wear helmets.

Of course, we had games like “Red Rover, Red Rover”, “Simon Says” “Duck Duck Goose” (goose goose duck would be a few years later for most of us) and “Hide and Seek”, but the game that sticks out to me the most was Crab Soccer.

Now, before I get to much into the details of this wonderful sport (now that I think about it, should be in the Olympics someday) I want you to know this is a real game.  It was played by everyone that wanted to play.  I don’t remember very many people sitting out of this game.

For those of us that did play Crab Soccer, let me tell you that explaining Crab Soccer to someone that has never seen it played can be a challenge.  I was trying to explain this to someone the other day and I literally had to get down in the position to demonstrate.  Some of the most epic battles of our class happened during these Crab Soccer games.  It was a game of anticipation and action.  You had to be quick and keep your head on a swivel.  If you had the position to play goalie, then you better get ready for some serious heat.  Some of the shots where unstoppable.  Some of the players on that court during those days could be unstoppable.  Wow did we have some fun.

Here is how the game works.  PE class of students is divided in half to form 2 teams.  Goalies are chosen to protect their back wall.  Everyone gets in position.  One team on one half of the court behind the free throw line and the other team on the other side.  The ball is placed in the center of the court and when the whistle is blown you advance on the ball.  The players crawl around on the floor on all fours except your belly is facing up.  A lot of sitting on your ass and scooting around on the floor too but crawling around like a crab and kick the ball when it comes to you.  No hands (like soccer).  The idea is to kick the ball against the other team’s wall to score a point.  It really is a “right time, right place” type of game.  You didn’t have to be extremely athletic to play, but those who were athletically inclined, well you wanted them on your team for sure.  Some big kicks and some great saves.  Amazing come from behind victories and a victory or two for the underdogs who maybe didn’t get the luck of the draw.  It was the most fun I can remember having in school at that age.

I guess it never dawned on me that every kid across the country wasn’t playing Crab Soccer at their school.  It was only a few years that we had Co-Ed PE.  Soon other things would become more important.  We grew up and forgot how fun it was to crawl around on the floor and kick that ball.  One of those innocence of youth moments that you relive later in life.

Wise Words“Keep pushing.  If you give in, you’ll never know how close you were.  And don’t tell anyone how close you are when you feel like you’re close or you’ll jinx the whole thing.” – Oliver White

I love this tune by Oliver – these guitar licks give me “Chicken Skin” (goose bumps)

 Pot’s Happening –

A recent article in MJBizDaily.com

Marijuana growers face costly labor challenges, seek solutions (mjbizdaily.com)

Tells of a shortage of workers.  Crops potential going to waste.

A coronavirus-induced labor shortage among marijuana cultivators is causing production delays, straining workers and costing some companies thousands of dollars in lost profits.

Nirvana Group, a vertically integrated medical marijuana company in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is in the middle of its fall outdoor harvest, and CEO Arshad “Adam” Lasi said the company has had to halt work several times because of worker shortages.

The company is trying to harvest about 80,000 plants and, ideally, would be cutting down a couple of thousand a day, according to Adam.

But the company has been unable to hit that number with its current workforce.

Adam estimates Nirvana will lose upwards of half a million dollars because the plants won’t be cured, harvested and processed in time.

“It’s spoiling in the field,” he said. “That’s a half-million dollars that’s not in my pocket”.

Across the country, cannabis cultivation companies are raising wages and offering more benefits to recruit and retain workers as the industry experiences the same labor challenges facing mainstream businesses across the U.S. economy.

Still, even offering several dollars over minimum wage for entry-level employees and field workers isn’t enough for some cannabis cultivation companies to meet staffing needs.

“We’re willing to pay them, we have the money to pay them, they just

Workers seem reluctant to get back into the market, according to Adam, who said he’s paying $10-$15 an hour.  The minimum wage in Oklahoma is $7.25 an hour.

He’s also adding performance bonuses based on the amount of work each day. He’ll add a dollar per each plant harvested, for example.

But he’s still struggling to find help

Most of the work is outside, so he doesn’t believe the workers are staying home because they’re concerned about catching the coronavirus.

He blames the federal government’s pandemic aid in the form of stimulus money and increased unemployment benefits for the worker shortage.

But other experts say those factors aren’t the cause. The expiration of higher unemployment benefits last month, for example, failed to produce a big increase in labor force participation.

At Denver-based vertically integrated company Native Roots, Chief Operating Officer Beth Kotarba said the company cut cultivation staff during the early days of the pandemic and has struggled to rebuild its workforce ever since.

“We are feeling the pain, that’s for sure,” She said.

At any given time, the cultivation department could be down 10 or so employees.

“But we haven’t seen a drop off in production,” She added, commending her workers for picking up the slack.

Those workers who have shown loyalty are being rewarded.

“I’d rather have less people and reward them better,” she said. “The cost structure stays the same, and we’re paying our employees better.”

Hiring has it challenges.  Applicants submit resumes, then don’t show for interviews. Workers are moving back to their home state or deciding to pursue other interests.

To combat that, Native Roots is also trying to attract entry-level workers with higher-than-base wages, despite the added labor costs.

“We’ve gone to upwards of $17 an hour,” She said. Minimum wage in Colorado is $12.32 an hour.

“We’re trying to consistently raise our hourly pay so we’re above the minimum wage and stand out in the cannabis industry.”

As for other benefits, the company offers a referral bonus for employees who recommend a successful hire.

For full-time workers, Native Roots offers health care and paid time off that begins to accrue as soon as the employee starts work.

Part-time workers will be eligible for health care next year.

“We’re just making the environment a good place to work so they enjoy it,” she said.

From the Marijuana Moment

The Senate Appropriations Committee released spending legislation that would finally let Washington, D.C. legalize marijuana sales

New York’s Department of Labor issued guidance saying that employers cannot drug test most workers for marijuana—going so far as to say the odor of cannabis cannot be used to prove impairment on the job.

California's attorney general announced that the state eradicated nearly 1.2 million illegally cultivated cannabis plants and seized more than 180,000 pounds of illegally processed marijuana as part of an annual effort.

A Maine law decriminalizing drug paraphernalia took effect.

Ohio's House speaker said he thinks new marijuana legalization legislation will get hearings.

Oregon's Senate president is calling for the National Guard to combat illegal marijuana cultivation.

Florida lawmakers filed legislation to allow medical cannabis patients to obtain recommendations via telemedicine.

Texas regulators issued guidance on delta-8 THC.

Connecticut regulators increased medical cannabis purchase limits.

Utah regulators proposed rules for medical cannabis testing labs.

PFC Song “Burn Rubber On Me” – The Gap Band – pay attention to the bass line in this song because I think it shows some influence on our next artist.

This is a song from my friend Wayne.  Wayne was an amazing musician.  I have talked about Wayne in previous episodes, so you know he holds special place in my heart.  I was listening to his song Geisha getting ready for this podcast.  Both songs were loaded in the player so I listened to them back to back and could hear the influence from the music of our childhood.

Enjoy some Jazz Fuzion.
