Puka in my Piko

Big thank you to the surgical team at Hilo Surgical Associates and everyone at Hilo Hospital.  Dr. Hudak did a great job.  Everyone from check-in to discharge was so helpful and kind.  I am very grateful to you for taking care of me.

I generally get nervous about going under, but this time, my spirit guide showed me that it would all be okay.

Anyone who has smoked with me in the past 10 years has noticed that I had to hold my stomach when I would cough, because I had a Umbilical Hernia and it would hurt.  Eating was also causing pain.  So, I finally got it fixed.

The small hole in my bellybutton - Puka in my Piko.   Amazingly they did it with a robot device that went in from the side using three small incisions and repaired the hole from the inside without splitting my belly open like I was told in 2013.  That's why I had avoided it for so long, because I didn't know how the recovery would be.  Because I knew that I would still be coughing on occasion.  The recovery time was much faster than I expected, and it felt better in one week that it had for 12 plus years.

On my journey to the surgical table I met some very nice people.  The nurse, Aleesa, that kept me ready to go into surgery the staging area was very nice and made sure I was comfortable as possible. We talked story about where we are from.  She is from Michigan, the U P.

One of my doctors was Dr. Gerber, the Anesthesiologists.  This is the person that evaluates, monitors, and supervises patient care before, during, and after surgery, delivering anesthesia.  Excellent job Dr. Gerber, I was comfortable and at ease from the moment we met.  I wanted to pick his brain about some of the new exciting psychedelics I have been experimenting with.....but that's for another time and another podcast.  He had the music selection going in the room.  When I first entered the room Prince was playing.  I was pleased to hear some funk.  The next song was the one I faded off too.  I remember Dr. Gerber asking "I wonder when he wrote this and if it really happened."

Well.  I will tell you Dr. Randy Gerber

This song was inspired by actual events that took place in a truck stop.  Seger wrote it while touring with Teegarden & Van Winkle.  A band originally out of Tulsa Oklahoma but had relocated to Michigan.  One of the band members recalls "We all had very long hair back then – it was the hippie era – but Skip, Mike and Bob had all stuffed their hair up in their hats. You had to be careful out on the road like that, because you'd get ostracized. When I walked in, there was this gauntlet of truckers making comments – "Is that a girl or man?" I was seething; those guys were laughing their asses off, a big funny joke. That next night, after we played our gig Seger says, "Hey, I've been working on this song for a bit, I've got this new line for it. He played it on acoustic guitar, and there was that line: "Oh, the same old cliches / 'Is that a woman or a man?'

Bob Seger said "I never thought that song would last as long as it has. That’s one of the songs we must play, or people get very agitated. If we don’t play that the fans are disappointed.

That song captured something. I wrote "Turn The Page" in 1971. It was the eight or ninth year of that 10-year period where I was going nowhere fast. We’d been harassed at a truck stop in Wisconsin at two in the morning by some men who kept calling us “girls” because we all had long hair. So we left because we didn’t want to get into a fight and become some police report. The next night I’m sitting there singing: ‘On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha. You can listen to the engine moanin’ out its one-note song… Well you walk into a restaurant all strung out from the road. And you feel the eyes upon you as you’re shakin’ off the cold. You pretend it doesn’t bother you but you just want to explode….’

I was thinking about how these people hate you because of the way you look, and how unreasonable it is. That became part of it. But the bigger thing, I think, was the real weariness of the road, and I tried to capture that. I think I captured it for truck drivers. I think I captured it for travelling businessmen.   And I think I just captured it for people who have to travel a lot and just plain miss home or family or both.  Bob said he wrote the song in a hotel room in Eau Claire, Wisconsin

Learning As I Grow! - Update from the
Greenhouse.  Before I tell you about the girls, I have growing let me share something else with you.  I just had a wonderful conversation with my doctor.  Dr. Berg from Greener Healing Ways, has been helping me for the last several years with his guidance and experiance.  After a quick discussion my Cannabis Licensed was renewed for another 2 years.  Many people don't understand how easy it can be to get your 329 card and be legal.  I can tell you from my personal experiance, it changes the way you consume cannabis.  It changes your entire mindset.  You don't have to hide or sneak around.  You can relax in the comfort of your own home and use plant medicine the way it was intended.  Thank you, Dr. Berg, for your help and all your insight.  I look forward to having you on the podcast very soon.  Kathy and I are going to make a trip over to visit your side of the Island.  Some of our favorite restaurants are over there.

So - What's Growing -

I will start with the oldest girls first.  Currently in week 3 of the flower stage, Skunk #1, and Chocolope.  Coming up in the vegetative stage are Rainbow Kush and more Chocolope.  Seeds are from various places.  The Skunk #1 I got at Stoned 4 Survival in Oklahoma while I was shopping there.  Having my license here in Hawaii allows me to get temporary status in other states, Oklahoma being one of those states.  The other seeds came from Amsterdam.  Several weeks to go before harvest.  Hopefully I can continue to have good success with my setup.  Added more space and fans to try and keep the mold and mildew at bay.  That reminds me I need to go Spray!!

Coming Up: Over the next few months, I will do my best to bring you along as I explore some new things.  I will be posting a new episode soon called “Psyche-Naut” short for Psychedelic Astronaut.

That’s “Psyche-Naut” not Psycho-Nutt.  I’m on the deepest dive of my psyche – soul, mind and spirit.  I have experienced a shift in ego and some very incredible personal insight.  Being careful along the way.  I am currently in contact with a Certified Psychedelic Therapist and look forward to learning more so that it may help others.  It has been an amazing exploration so far.
