420 Time
Toke time – Let’s fire it up! You got yurin and I gotts minz so let’s get lifted!!!
New videos posted this week to YouTube are Trimming Mega JackPot Strain, Dabbado Trip around the Yard, and Fire (night by the fire, enjoying Off-Grid Life).
Staying busy around the farm. Several projects in the works. Videos to be made about Rosin Press, Root systems, Dabba Doo videos, Trim down for the dry box time. I have yard work, plumbing upgrade, I want to re-arrange the studio and continue to manage the plants.
Harvest
Let’s face it, this is what we spend all our time tending to the plants…to kill them and then smokem’! Harvest can be a weird time. Spending all this time taking care of the plant to cut it down, trim it up, and hang it to dry. I sometimes wonder if other Growers say goodbye to their plants as they are cutting the heads off. It is exciting to see them grow into the final stage. The aroma is intoxicating. Smells …
Not sure I would take it that far, but it’s very very nice.
We all want to grow the primo. Every time I see the trichomes forming I start to dream about this being my best, most potent, tastiest buds ever. I am trying to do some things to increase trichome production. I will discuss those things in detail in upcoming episodes. I have learned to keep my expectations at a reasonable level.
During this harvest time I find myself checking plants continuously because I don’t want to be caught off guard. Even that little bit of flower mold through me into a spin, worried I was going to wake up to all my flowers destroyed. Fan regimen is critical for the plants that I can keep indoors. The big girls have their permanent locations on the front porch. The girl in the greenhouse, who’s head broke off, she took the stress and formed her own form of resistance. Sometimes when plants are stressed for a variety of reasons, they can start to form seeds in an effort to re-germinate or survival. Luckily for me these should be feminized seeds and a good start to next year’s harvest.
Staging the harvest by switching plants at different times, has been a good plan for me to avoid having harvest every plant at the same time. I’m sure I could adjust if needed, but due to space and the light output, I try to stage the plants so I can harvest them in different weeks to do the work in stages. I hope that the weather co-operates.
Amsterdam Seed Company description says harvest time 9-11 weeks. But, some other grow sites said they could go as long as 12 weeks. The first girls were ready at the end of week 10, almost week 11, but I will wait and see how long I can extend each plant. On the calendar I planned for 12 weeks of flower, so that gives a bit of grace period when it comes to drying and curing. THC level can range from 20-30% on the high end of the scale. Sativa dominant 65/35 strain that comes from Jack Herer, Big Bud, and Northern Lights. Although Sativa dominant, these colas have a nice size and shape to them and the flowers have filled out nice like an Indica. They have been fun to grow and I have learned several things about this strain and ways to grow better next time. I still have my mind on trying the Afghan strain next year, to test its resistance to mold, but I can see having a few of these girls growing along with them. Mega JackPot Strain – So far so good.
Wise Words – “We must devote ourselves to being self-sufficient and must not depend upon the external rating of others for our happiness” – Bruce Lee
PFC Song - “Faceless” – Fallen – Album is (Ashes of The Past) available on Spotify and other sources. CD available to by online (Amazon link).

I was sad to read the news that my friend Jeremy Hignight was in a fatal wreck this past weekend. Jeremy was the lead singer of Fallen. Our condolences, prayers and aloha to his Wife, 3 children, Family and Friends. I met Jeremy at David’s Meat Market. He gave me his cd and I played that cut on the radio. RIP Brother
Learning As I Grow! – As I begin the end of the process with the Mega Jackpot Strain, I continue to learn lesson about growing. I expect that will be the case from now on, research, apply, test results, and repeat. I have been through root rot, white mold, bud rot, plants breaking, and plants destroyed by animals (dog, goats, chickens). I continue to search for better ways to improve taste and potency. Let’s face it, Potency is what sells, but if you’re a Craft Grower, then your mindset is different. I was recently reading how the Cannabis Market in Canada is allowing for small farmers to sell there flowers as “Craft Bud” or small batch premium products. Like “Craft Beer”, small growers can Craft buds for flavor, potency, and aesthetics. Sometimes you just do the best you can with what you have. It’s hard to plan for the unexpected, but that’s kind of what you have to do. Be ready if something goes wrong.
Primary reason that I stage my harvest so if something happens I have back up. I flipped two plants. Three weeks later I flipped 2 more. Then 3 weeks later the last 4 girls were flipped to flower phase.
Other than good genetics, it really come down to the 3 basic things.
Water, Feed and Light are a must.
Some people get very precise when it comes to water. Some insist on aerating their water for 24 hours before using. Some want an exact PH level. 6.0-6.4 PH level for soil and usually around 5.5 for hydroponics. Some use RO (reverse osmosis) water. Others just use the water that they have. I use rainwater. Not recommended in most areas. Some growers here have told me that the rain is hard on plants. I have found good luck with my collection and storage method. Although I have the PH up and PH down solution and a great PH meter. I have found that PH is very consistent each time I test it. Usually a solid 7, but sometimes a little higher. Any plant Food added generally brings the PH level down below the recommended range. It can be difficult to change PH levels after the food is added. Treat the water first, and then mix it what I have read.
The challenge comes when you are growing different plants. Tomatoes, Eggplant and Green beans like different PH levels and other plants are unique as well.
The Type of Food to feed your cannabis plant can come in a wide variety of sources. Some growers avoid Fish products, others swear by all things from the sea. Organic growers only use what they create naturally. It really comes down to what is available for you and what you find that works. I have tried 3 different types of food. From powered food to put in the dirt to liquid concentrates that are full of solids and hard to mix, and liquid concentrates that are clear and easy to mix. Although for large garden projects you can use a Miracle Grow All Purpose Plant Food concentrate, but usually they are very high in Nitrogen (the first number 12,4,8 = These three numbers represent the primary nutrients (nitrogen(N) - phosphorus(P) - potassium(K)). Nitrogen is required in the early stages of growth and less important in later stage of flowering. So, it’s especially important to know what your plant needs for food and when that need changes.
Light is important and again a wide variety of options when growing indoors. I have been moving plants outside in the sun during nice dry days. Indoors, I use LED lights that use low wattage, but high out put of light. Sunlight here is very intense as we are closer to the Equator, but the plants thrive in it, for the most part. But too much heat can cause damage to the trichomes. Adequate water is a must for my other plants like Tomatoes and Peppers. I have had some plants burn up for lack of rain. The Strawberries have been the most resilient. They thrive if the grass kept pulled out and I make sure they get plenty of bloom nutrient for big juicy fruit. Also, an important factor is to pick your fruit. Somehow the plant knows when fruit has been picked or not. It will slow production if the strawberry is left to decay on the vine.
Hoping to have a different green house, grow room and finish room by this time next year. I can see how important it is to have Climate Control, specifically Humidity.
Just like everything else when it comes to growing this “Weed”, Drying cannabis flower can be done a few different ways. Everyone has their favorite. In the next podcast we will look further into a few of the options that are used. I prefer to trim first and then hang until almost ready, and then cut off each bud and place them in the dry box for a few weeks. More on drying in next weeks podcast The Final Phase. Also, on the list of things to discuss is Rosin Versus Resin.
Songs I like to listen to when I’m stoned. Last week I featured a cut from the Voodoo Soup Album. One of my favorite stoner Albums from Jimi. I can enjoy it from start to finish. This is cut is an instrumental.

| Common Reactions In reaction to current events in Afghanistan, Veterans may: · Feel frustrated, sad, helpless, grief or distressed · Feel angry or betrayed · Experience an increase in mental health symptoms like symptoms of PTSD or depression · Sleep poorly, drink more or use more drugs · Try to avoid all reminders or media or shy away from social situations · Have more military and homecoming memories Veterans may question the meaning of their service or whether it was worth the sacrifices they made. They may feel more moral distress about experiences they had during their service. Veterans may feel like they need to expect and/or prepare for the worst. For example, they may: · Become overly protective, vigilant, and guarded · Become preoccupied by danger · Feel a need to avoid being shocked by, or unprepared for, what may happen in the future Feeling distress is a normal reaction to negative events, especially ones that feel personal. It can be helpful to let yourself feel those feelings rather than try to avoid them. Often, these feelings will naturally run their course. If they continue without easing up or if you feel overwhelmed by them, the suggestions below can be helpful. Strategies for Managing Ongoing Distress At this moment, it may seem like all is lost, like your service or your sacrifices were for nothing. Consider the ways that your service made a difference, the impact it had on others’ lives or on your own life. Remember that now is just one moment in time and that things will continue to change. It can be helpful to focus on the present and to engage in the activities that are most meaningful and valuable to you. Is there something you can do today that is important to you? This can be as an individual, a family member, a parent, or a community member. Something that is meaningful to you in regard to your work or your spirituality? Such activities won’t change the past or the things you can’t control, but they can help life feel meaningful and reduce distress, despite the things you cannot change. It can also help to consider your thinking. Ask yourself if your thoughts are helpful to you right now. Are there ways you can change your thinking to be more accurate and less distressing? For example, are you using extreme thinking where you see the situation as all bad or all good? If so, try and think in less extreme terms. For example, rather than thinking “my service in Afghanistan was useless” consider instead “I helped keep Afghanistan safe.” Finally, consider more general coping strategies that you may want to try including: ·
Engage in Positive Activities. Try to engage in positive, healthy, or meaningful activities, even if they are small, simple actions. Doing things that are rewarding, meaningful, or enjoyable, even if you don’t feel like it, can make you feel better. ·
Stay Connected. Spend time with people who give you a sense of security, calm, or happiness, or those who best understand what you are going through. ·
Practice Good Self Care. Look for positive coping strategies that help you manage your emotions. Listening to music, exercising, practicing breathing routines, spending time in nature or with animals, journaling, or reading inspirational text are some simple ways to help manage overwhelming or distressing emotions. ·
Stick to Your Routines. It can be helpful to stick to a schedule for when you sleep, eat, work, and do other day-to-day activities. · Limit Media Exposure. Limit how much news you take in if media coverage is increasing your distress. · Use a mobile app. Consider one of VA’s self-help apps (see https://www.ptsd.va.gov/appvid/mobile/) such as PTSD Coach which has tools that can help you deal with common reactions like, stress, sadness, and anxiety. You can also track your symptoms over time. · PTSD Coach Online. A series of online video coaches will guide you through 17 tools to help you manage stress. PTSD Coach Online is used on a computer, rather than a mobile device, and therefore can offer tools that involve writing. If you develop your own ways of adapting to ongoing events and situations, you may gain a stronger sense of being able to deal with challenges, a greater sense of meaning or purpose, and an ability to mentor and support others in similar situations.
